Prionosuchus was an Archegosaur; a type of Temnospondyl amphibian which are noted for their fish-like biology and their lengthened, crocodile-like snouts. Prionosuchus represents not only the largest member of the Archegosauridae, but also one of the largest known "amphibians" of all time. Archegosaurs would have spent most, if not, all of their time in water. They would have been predators of fish and other amphibians. Prionosuchus lived during the Early Permian and remains of the animal have been found in Brazil.
